Artists In Residence

expressions of interest welcome.

For 2026 Artist in Residence (AiR) program.

The Cannery Arts Centre looks for a diverse range of artists for our residency program, from traditional visual arts mediums to contemporary performing arts and everything in between. We hope to bring fresh ideas to Esperance artists and challenge local audiences in their perceptions.

The terms of each residency are negotiable; however, the Cannery can provide studio space on our grounds. We also have a secondary gallery space that, if available, may be utilised as a part of the residency if required. Accommodation will need to be organised by the artist.

Artists open to workshops with our community within one of our creative learning programs are preferable. The Cannery enthusiastically welcomes EOI’s from arts practitioners who are First Nations, come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and live with a disability.

The Cannery envisions each residency for at least one week and a maximum of four. However, this can be negotiated if the length of stay falls out of this guideline given to the artists’ locality and costs outside the budget. Our AiR program for 2025 is unfunded, with artists required to seek their own funding or speak to the Cannery team to discuss further. Artist fees are negotiated for any workshops you may host or present.

We welcome travelling artists to ‘pop in’ and discuss opportunities. Talk to one of our friendly staff when you visit the gallery.
