Based at her Pink Lake property, Jen specializes in growing and arranging stunning seasonal blooms. In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll design and craft a vibrant garden wreath using locally grown dahlias and zinnias, perfect for adding a touch of natural beauty to your holiday décor.

No prior experience is needed, and participants will leave with a handcrafted wreath made from fresh, local flowers to take home. This workshop is open to all ages (minimum age 10), making it a fun and festive activity for individuals or families.

Art Handling and Installation

Join Bjoern Rainer-Adamson, the Install Team Leader at John Curtin Gallery, Perth, for an introduction to best practices for unpacking, packing, and handling artworks. He will also provide guidance on pre-planning for handling diverse artworks, including lifting, hanging, and carrying, based on their material, texture, media, size, and weight and will share some of his experiences with challenging display situations and how they resolved them.

This workshop is a great refresher or introduction for beginners to art handling and installation for beginners.

Bjoern is working with the Cannery Arts Centre team to assist with installation of the Esperance Art Awards, providing a practical educational opportunity in art handling and installation.

This project is funded by the State Government of Western Australia through the arts funding and advisory body the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) and the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost (RETB) Regional Public Art Galleries - 2023 to 2027 Funding Round for the Regional Arts Venues Support program (RAVS), funding to support the expansion of annual programs delivered by arts venues in regional Western Australia over a 3-year period. The DLGSC is committed to supporting the activities of key Western Australian arts and cultural organisations and delivers the Royalties for Regions funded Regional Arts and Culture Investment Program (RACIP) under an agreement with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The RACIP aims to build capacity and contribute to liveability in regional communities by supporting the creative and cultural industries in regional Western Australia.

We’re excited to announce the launch of a new Children’s Choir, led by Maggie Tolman, a retired primary school teacher and the musical director of the Esperance Community Singers. Maggie is passionate about nurturing a love of music in children and providing a welcoming space for young music enthusiasts in the Esperance community. The choir aims to build awareness of music concepts and highlight the importance of music in our community, fostering creativity and confidence in children.

Children in Grades 2 to 6 are welcome to attend

The choir will meet in the music room (yoga studio) at the Cannery arts centre on Saturdays from 2-3pm on the following dates:

E-Waste Buy-Back With Loren Kronemyer

As part of an initiative to gather metals and materiel for future stages of this project, Artist in Residence, Loren will be running an 'E-Waste Buy-Back' gathering on Friday 27 September. Promising “Pizza for Parts”, you are invited to donate your out-of-date electronics to the artist in exchange for a fresh pizza. The artist will be mining precious metals from these electronics as part of an experimental smelting process.

Please come with electronics that are no smaller than a finger, no larger than a body: this can include power cords, phones, television screens, computers, monitors, remote controls, speakers, instrument cables, and other electronics that are safe to handle. Loren will keep these items, so please make sure you are ready to let them go for good.

This workshop is free and open to all aged 16+. Bookings are essential and are available for individuals or pairs arriving in ten-minute intervals. This is a BYO event.

This experience takes approximately 10 minutes per individual/pair, with the invitation to stay, eat, and socialise afterwards. Please arrive on-time for your scheduled time slot. Note this event takes place outdoors, so kindly dress appropriately for you. This event involves reading, listening and conversation, as well as standing, walking, and climbing stairs. If you have any access or mobility concerns, please get in touch and we can work with you to find the right way to participate.

WET FELT WOOL HAT MAKING WITH JAMB HATS

Learn the art of wet felting and make your own hat with textile artist, Jo Barr from Jamb Hats, NSW. In this full-day workshop, you will work with Australian fine merino wool to create your own felt. To practice the technique, you will manipulate your hand-made felt into a flower to make a simple brooch. Once you’ve honed your skills, you will shape your felt into a hat of your chosen style. You will have the option of cloche, concertina or small-brimmed hat. At the end of the day, you will have a one-of-a-kind hat to top off any outfits.

Wool colour chart: choose when booking, list in order at least two with your preferred listed first. Jo will bring extra so you can change your mind on the day.
