Join master potter master Krystal Obschonka for Sunday afternoons working with clay for 6 weeks.

This is an excellent introduction for beginners with Krystal introducing participants to hand building. Participants may try the pottery wheel later on in the course. The course price includes clay, glazes, and firings. Finished products are generally ready for pick up 3 weeks after the course has finished.

Limited to 10 participants-adults only.

Hand-Building Ceramic Cups – Teens Workshop

Join regional artist Jess Le Monnier for a creative ceramics workshop designed just for teens! As part of her Regional Arts Next Level Fellowship project, Jess is offering this free 2-hour session where young people can explore ceramics as a powerful form of self-expression.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of hand-building techniques and create their own unique ceramic cup. Jess will guide everyone step-by-step, encouraging individual style and creativity through clay. No experience needed—just bring your imagination and get ready to create!

Once fired and glazed, your finished ceramic cup will be ready for collection in 2–3 weeks. Parents/guardians will be notified by email when pieces are ready to pick up.

Join us for a free community workshop in partnership with Fauna for the Future Australia and Key Pest and Weed Control and Swan Veterinary Services. Learn what to do if you encounter a snake at home and how to keep your family, kids, and pets safe.

Presented by Darren and Jenelle, experienced native fauna rescuers, this session focuses on education as the first line of defence for both humans and snakes. Darren has written a new snake awareness book full of information to share with participants and Dominoes Esperance will be providing a bite to eat.

Based at her Pink Lake property, Jen specializes in growing and arranging stunning seasonal blooms. In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll design and craft a vibrant garden wreath using locally grown dahlias and zinnias, perfect for adding a touch of natural beauty to your holiday décor.

No prior experience is needed, and participants will leave with a handcrafted wreath made from fresh, local flowers to take home. This workshop is open to all ages (minimum age 10), making it a fun and festive activity for individuals or families.

What The Eyes Cannot See is a community collaborative storytelling project facilitated by Fremantle based artists Audrey Fernandes-Satar and Arif Satar in partnership with the Cannery Arts Centre for the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial.

Community members, ADULTS ONLY, are invited to participate in FREE art making workshops creating a series of Story Books and Memory Objects reflecting their sense of identity, culture and connection to place. The community works will be exhibited as an installation at the Cannery Arts Centre gallery alongside the artworks created by Audrey and Arif. This is a satellite exhibition for IOTA24.

Join master potter Krystal Obschonka in this immersive workshop where you'll delve into the art of slipcasting, a cherished ceramics technique. Over the course of two enriching mornings, learn the intricacies of slipcasting using prepared moulds, choosing a tea cup, mug or tumbler. From mixing your own porcelain slip to incorporating coloured stains for unique creations, you'll master the process step by step. The first session will focus on pouring the liquid clay into plaster moulds, while the second session will unveil the removal of the set porcelain forms.

HANDMADE NATIVE BOTANICALS WITH MILLY AND NOMES

Learn how to make Australian Wildflowers from artists Naomi Stanitzki (Nomes) and Mylene van Heijster (Milly). In this 3 week course you will make 6 different native botanicals to create your own beautiful bouquet of wildflowers made from found materials.

Milly and Nomes are known for their elaborate botanical sculptures created with Esperance Community Arts for the Esperance Wildflower Festival. Milly is a Dutch trained textile artist and jeweller who creates unique jewellery, textile art works, accessories, garments and quilts and is inspired by the colours and shapes of nature around us. Naomi is an artist who creates work inspired by our beautiful local environment. Her practice focuses on drawing, printmaking and ceramics. She creates her clay pieces using traditional hand-building techniques and loves to share her skills and knowledge with budding artists of all ages.

This is a three week course
Sunday 10th, 17th and 24th March 12.30pm-3.30pm

All materials will be provided and this is open to adults and older teens 16 yrs +.

CLAY AND PLAY: CREATE AN EGG TRAY 7+YRS

Easter clay fun for children! Make an egg tray out of clay and store your Easter eggs in it. Guided by pottery loving Mum's Jess and Tara, let your child get moulding and squishing with clay. Items will be fired afterwards and will be available to collect approximately 3 weeks later.

Children 7+ years

All materials are provided though it is recommended to send children with a labelled water bottle and dress them for messy claywork.

Under the guidance of master potter Krystal Obshonka, participants in this 6-week course will learn all of the skills required to prepare and centre clay on a pottery wheel, make cylindrical forms and glaze their work.

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm every Wednesday evening from the 21st Feburary to the 27th March, 2023.

Space is strictly limited to 6 participants (adults only).

This course is suitable for all skill levels.

MASTERING MINDFULNESS PHOTOGRAPHY

Mindfulness Photography is about slowing down and clearing the mind by taking photos.

Join Michael Pelusey, professional photographer and travel writer, in this workshop, where Michael will show his mindfulness photography process for taking better photos. Participants are to bring their own camera, a smartphone or SLR, or both! After an hour of theory, participants will venture outside for some fun and hands-on practice outside in nature.

Michael and Jane Pelusey are professional travel writers and photographers. They have published over 80 non fiction books for children as well as travel guides and magazine articles. Michael has run photography workshops and talks in WA for over 10 years. Michael also runs his Mindfulness Photography Facebook group where members meet up in different locations.

In this workshop, participants will be taught the basics of hand-building clay. Guided by Mums, Jess and Tara, who both have a passion for ceramics and want to share their love of clay with kids. Participants will create a unique and functional chip and dip bowl. The pottery has to harden and then is bisque-fired. Jess and Tara will then glaze them and they will be fired again. Once they are ready you will be notified by email to collect them, approximately 3-4 weeks later.

All other materials are provided. Participants should wear clothes suitable for crafting, and must wear closed-in shoes. Recommended to send them with a labelled water bottle.

KickArts: Still Life Wildflowers

A beautiful bunch of wildflowers arranged in beautiful jugs is displayed, just waiting for creative fingers to create beautiful paintings. A workshop to focus and hone some painting skills with a beautiful still life. Katie White is a botanist and scientist, turned artist and educator. She gets great excitement and joy out of the many wonders of the natural world and is passionate about sharing and connecting. Participants will create 1-2 acrylic paintings. Paintings may need time to dry overnight and can be collected in the following days. All wildflowers will be collected under appropriate licenses.

All materials are provided. Participants should wear clothes suitable for crafting, and must wear closed in shoes. Recommended to send them with a labelled water bottle.

Discover the art of image transfer on encaustic wax painted wood. Develop a vintage feel to your favourite photographs and preserve them in a material that can stand the test of time! These make unique personalised gifts or keepsakes. Facilitated by experienced encaustic artist Elaine Fewings, a local artist and Curtin University graduate, who has developed an ever-changing art practice with a focus on conceptual art and materiality.

CLAY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS 4-8YRS

Festive fun for children! They will get to paint underglaze onto bisque fired handmade clay Christmas shapes, made by Mum's Jess and Tara, who will also facilitate this workshop. Each child will get to paint 3-4 ornaments. Items will be fired afterwards and will be available to collect 1-2 weeks later.
